Know these tips and suggestions ahead of time to make your arrival and stay smoother.

  • Bring cash when you self-surrender, it is the fastest way to get money on your commissary account.

    Eat a big meal before surrendering, it could be a lengthy process and you will have limited access to food until the next day.

  • There are two different types of apps that you need to download in order to communicate via email or via video call. The inmate must register each individual from inside the prison in order to have your connection approved.

    Phone calls only can last 15 minutes-automatically disconnected and two times during the call you will hear an announcement that this call is from Federal prison.

  • All people wanting to visit you must be pre-approved by the Bureau of Prison. It could be a lengthy approval process so ask for the specific forms immediately. Borrow an envelope and a stamp from someone and mail them ASAP.

  • You will automatically get assigned to a top bunk unless you can prove through documentation/medical approval that you need to be on the bottom bunk.

    As of 2023, lights go on at 5:30 AM Monday-Friday, Lights go on at 8:30 AM Saturday and Sunday, lights off after count usually around 9:30 PM every day. Count is at 4:00 pm and 9:30 pm Monday through Friday, Count is 10:00 AM, 4:00 PM and 9:30 PM Saturday and Sunday.

  • As of 2023, starting rate for most jobs are .12 cents an hour.
